Robbery Reported to Police
July 5th, 2019 - Police & the Community

The Barrie Police Service is requesting the assistance of the public with regards to an ongoing robbery investigation.

On Thursday, July 4, 2019, at approximately 4:15 a.m., a male who was on his way to work, was walking over the Anne Street bridge that crosses Highway 400 when he was approached by what is described as an older model (2000-2006) Dodge Caravan, blue in colour, with visible rust above the wheel wells and along the bottom. A male in the van exited from the passenger side, approached the victim and pushed him against the nearby guardrail. The suspect then stole a cellphone, backpack and a set of headphones and returned to the van, which quickly drove away southbound on Anne Street turning right onto Dunlop Street West.

The suspect is described as:

  • Male black, 20’s
  • 6’ - 6’3”, thin muscular build, clean shaven, thick accent, short shaved on the side hair with longer curls on top
  • Wearing a black hooded style sweatshirt and black jeans.

A short time later, police were able to locate the discarded cellphone in a parking lot, but it was severely damaged.

The Barrie Police Service reminds the public and pedestrians in particular to always be aware of their surroundings and that the use of headphones and earbuds can restrict your ability to detect someone that may be approaching you.

Anyone with information with regards to this robbery is asked to contact Barrie Police Investigative Services at 705-725-7025, ext. 2129 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or leave an anonymous tip online at www.p3tips.com.
