The Barrie Police Service is requesting the assistance of the public with regards to an ongoing investigation.

On Friday, July 19, 2019, at 1:19 p.m., police responded to report of an attempted robbery at the Scotiabank located at 688 Mapleview Drive East in the City of Barrie. Upon arrival, it was determined by uniformed officers that the lone suspect involved had fled the scene northbound on Yonge St. in a grey coloured, newer model Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), which may have been a Nissan Rogue. The suspect, who was armed with a shotgun, was able to only gain entry to the main door area of the bank after an alert employee was able to run and lock the door to the Branch.

Officers at the scene were also assisted by Barrie Police Tactical Support and Canine Unit. The ongoing investigation, which is being conducted by detectives from the Barrie Police Investigative Services and the Forensic Identification Unit, is continuing.

From surveillance video from within the bank, police are able to now provide the description of the suspect who carried out this early afternoon attempted robbery. The suspect is described as:

  • Male, white, approximately 6’ tall, slim build, 20s or 30s
  • Wearing a dark blue baseball style hat with an orange New York Mets logo, pink or red coloured bandana up over nose, grey long-sleeved shirt, dark pants, dark shoes with a white toe cap and soles, gloves and sunglasses (possibly red).

Also, should anyone have dash camera video of a grey coloured 4-door passenger car traveling northbound or southbound on Yonge Street near Mapleview Drive East shortly after 1:19 p.m., you too are encouraged to immediately contact the Barrie Police Service.
