MALE IDENTIFIED: Speedy Break and Enter Suspect Sought

Barrie Police have identified the suspect in the break and enter to Macewen’s Gas Station located at 652 Dunlop Street West, in the City of Barrie, on Thursday, September 6th, 2018. 

The male has been identified as a 48-year-old Barrie male who is currently in custody with another police service.  The in depth investigation led detectives to link the accused male to another previous break and enter at the same location on Sunday, August 19th, 2018.  On this occasion the male also broke a window with a large rock gaining access to the closed gas bar and grabbed over $500.00 of scratch lottery tickets. Detectives have been working close with neighbouring jurisdictions who have has similar break and enters in a collaborative approach to linking these types of property crimes across city limits. As the investigation continues, a full list of charges will be determined to be updated when complete.

Barrie Police is looking to identify a male who is responsible for a middle of the night break and enter into a westside Barrie gas station.

On Thursday, September 6th, 2018 at approximately 1:10 am the male suspect attended the Macewen Gas Station located at 652 Dunlop Street West, in the City of Barrie. Video surveillance shows the male park an unknown vehicle along Miller Drive before walking past the car wash and towards the front of the store.  He is seen picking up a large rock and using it to break the glass on one of the front doors to gain entry. 

Once inside the store, the suspect made his way behind the cash area and removed several trays of scratch tickets along with a tray containing float money. The male they left the store returning to the vehicle, last seen driving off northbound on Miller Drive. Officers arrived eight (8) minutes after the suspect entered the store and both him and the vehicle had already left the area. 

Description:

  • Male, white
  • Heavy build 
  • Wearing a black balaclava, white t-shirt, black shorts, black running shoes and work gloves
