Barrie Police have identified one male responsible for the theft of the batteries from the rear of St. Onge Recreation on Friday, August 17th. 2018.  A 32-year-old Barrie man has been charged with Theft Under $5000 and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.  He will attend court later next month to answer to his charges. 

The second suspect involved in Friday's theft, as well as the other involved suspects in Wednesday's theft are still outstanding. On Friday, August 17th, 2018 at approximately 2:10 am two (2) males attended St. Onge Recreation located at 65 Hart Drive, in the City of Barrie. They removed approximately 15-20 marine batteries from the rear of the building using a neighbouring business for access and a shopping cart for transport. When the batteries were found to be missing, video surveillance was reviewed and it was also discovered one of the suspects involved in the battery theft, along with two (2) additional males, attended St. Onge Recreation on Wednesday, August 15th, 2018 at 2:00 am and stole a pump from a boat.

Immediately upon realizing the items had been taken, contact was made with local recycling plants in the area to advise of the thefts. It was learned the stolen property had been recycled first thing Friday morning around 8:00 am at a John Street recycling depot in Barrie.

Suspect #1:

  • Male, darker complexion
  • Medium length black hair in a ponytail
  • Black beard
  • Wearing a brown plaid shirt, dark pants and brown shoes

Suspect #2:

  • Male, white
  • Dark brown hair, salt and pepper scruffy beard
  • Wearing a black t-shirt, black shorts and black boots
