March 27th, 2018 - Police & the Community

Barrie Police Service is looking for the public's assistance in identifying a male and female involved in a theft and fraud that occurred at a grocery store in Barrie.

On Saturday, March 10th, 2018 at 1:00 pm the victim was shopping at Sobey's located at 37 Mapleview Drive, in the City of Barrie.  It wasn't until the next morning the victim noticed his wallet missing from his jacket pocket and looking further into banking records revealed four (4) of his cards had been used over and over again.  Police reviewed video surveillance from the cash where the victim last had his wallet and observed a male and female directly behind him in line.  The male plainly looked over the victims shoulder, noting his pin number into his phone.  Immediately after the female moved behind the victim in the small, contained area and concealed her hand behind an oversize purse. Simultaneously the male picked up a large item to shield the view of the cashier.  It appears at this time the female reached into the victims coat pocket and swiped the wallet.

Between 2:00 pm Saturday when the wallet was stolen, until 12:00 pm Sunday when the cards were reported stolen, the suspects withdrew or made purchases of over $7500.00 over four (4) different credit and debit cards.
