(Update) Monday, February 26, 2018 - 1:30 p.m.

The investigation continues following the theft of a police cruiser early Monday morning. The vehicle had been stolen after an officer responded to a break and enter at Canadian Tire, located at 75 Mapleview Drive, West, in the City of Barrie.

Using Global Positioning System (GPS), the vehicle was found on Innisfil Beach Road, just west of Industrial Parkway, in the Town of Innisfil. The suspect was located near the scene by both Barrie and South Simcoe Police Canine units.

Investigators have charged a 38-year-old Barrie man with; Break and Enter, Theft Over $5,000, Flight from Police, Dangerous Driving and Drive Disqualified. Further investigation found the accused had been wanted on a Canada wide warrant for Breach of Parole. He is scheduled to appear in bail court later this afternoon.

Police have one male in custody after a stolen Barrie Police cruiser was recovered early Monday morning just after 3:30 a.m. 

On Monday, February 26, 2018, just after 3:00 a.m., police responded to a break and enter at Canadian Tire, located at 75 Mapleview Drive, West, in the City of Barrie. Upon arrival three (3)  suspects had been observed loading several televisions into a vehicle, which had been parked in the shipping and receiving area, located at the back of the store. The three suspects immediately fled on foot, and one suspect managed to flee the area after stealing a police cruiser. 

Using a Global Positioning System (GPS) to locate the vehicle, it was found on Innisfil Beach Road, just west of Industrial Parkway, in the Town of Innisfil. Multiple police units, including canine units from Barrie and South Simcoe Police, located the suspect near the scene where the car was abandoned.

At this time two suspects remain outstanding, a male and a female. The driver of the vehicle; a 38-year-old male has been taken into custody and is facing several charges. 

The investigation is ongoing and further details will be released as information becomes available.
