On Friday, December 1, 2017, Barrie Police Traffic Services conducted Festive R.I.D.E. throughout the City of Barrie.

Police administered twenty (20) roadside breath demands, resulting in two 3-day licence suspensions and eleven (11) standardized field sobriety tests, which further resulted in a 43-year-old Barrie man charged with Impaired Driving by Drug.

A 32 and 46-year-old Barrie man was charged with Impaired Driving and Over 80, followed by a 90-day licence suspension and a 7-day vehicle impoundment.  

Further charges stemming from R.I.D.E included charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, for possession of crack-cocaine, and several Highway Traffic Act related charges which included a motorist being charged with Stunt Driving and Operate Unsafe Vehicle.

On average, approximately 4 people are killed each day in crashes involving alcohol and/or drugs. The Barrie Police Service is committed to reducing impaired driving and will continue to raise awareness on this leading criminal cause of death in Canada.
