On Friday, November 24, 2017, the Barrie Police Traffic Services kicked off Festive R.I.D.E. throughout the City of Barrie.

A 34-year-old Barrie man was arrested after fleeing from police at a R.I.D.E spot check. He was charged with; Dangerous Driving, Drive Disqualified and Flight from Police, and served with a seven (7) day vehicle impoundment. The male had also been wanted on several outstanding warrants.

A 30-year-old Barrie man was charged with; Drive Disqualified and Drive under Suspension, which resulted in a 45-day vehicle impoundment. 

Police administered ten (10) roadside breath demands and seven (7) field sobriety tests which further resulted in two adults and one youth being charged with possession of cannabis.

Further charges stemming from R.I.D.E included several charges under the Highway Traffic Act and Liquor Licence Act.

The Barrie Police Service is committed to reducing impaired driving on our roadways and will continue to raise awareness on this leading criminal cause of death in Canada, which on average, kills approximately 4 people each day.
