Occurrence Type: Charges Laid After Lengthy Investigation

On Wednesday, November 15th, 2017 Barrie Police Service laid charges after the conclusion of a lengthy investigation stemming from a suspicious death investigation dating back to August, 2017.  Investigators seized a small bag of white powder from the scene in August which was confirmed by Health Canada testing as the deadly synthetic opioid U-47700, or U4. A 28-year-old Barrie male was charged with Manslaughter and Criminal Negligence Causing Death.  He appeared in a Barrie court the following day and will re-appear later this month.

Please be advised a publication ban has been imposed by the courts in relation to charges laid after the original investigation in August and therefore no further information can be released.
