Occurrence #: BA16043416
Date: Tuesday, October 3, 2017 - 8:30am

On Tuesday, October 3rd, 2017,  a male wanted on online exploitation of children related charges turned himself into detectives at the Barrie Police Service.

Members of the Barrie Police Service Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit commenced an investigation in August 2016 after receiving two anonymous tips concerning the upload of child pornography via Skype.  As a result a production order and search warrant were executed and subsequently cellular and electronic devices were seized. Police charged the 26-year-old Oro-Medonte male with Possession of Child Pornography and Accessing Child Pornography. The accused appeared in bail court before an Ontario Court of Justice on Tuesday and will re-appear in late October.

The Barrie Police Internet Child Exploitation Unit is a partner within Ontario’s “Provincial Strategy” to protect children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the internet.  This project has been made possible by a grant from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.
