Collision Reconstruction Investigators Seeking Witnesses
October 18th, 2017 - Police & the Community

On Monday, October 16th, 2017 at 2:30pm Barrie Police received multiple calls for a string of collisions along Bayfield Street, in the City of Barrie, where one vehicle continued driving leaving the scene of each collision.

Moments later a call was received from the, thought to be, fleeing vehicle whose driver had his vehicle stopped at Simcoe Street and Bayfield Street after what he described as vehicle troubles.

The investigation revealed the 2005 light blue Ford Freestar first showed signs of mechanical distress at Bayfield Street and the 400 highway as it travelled southbound on Bayfield Street.  The van struck a City of Barrie bus in the intersection of Bayfield Street and Wellington Street and continued southbound.  In the intersection of Bayfield Street and Sophia Street the van struck a second vehicle but still did not come to a stop.  The van proceeded through the 5-points intersection and the driver was able to bring the vehicle to a stop once turned onto Simcoe Street.

Investigators in the Collision Reconstruction Team are seeking witnesses who may have observed this vehicle anywhere along Bayfield Street from the 400 Highway where the mechanical issues are thought to have started through to where the vehicle stopped on Simcoe Street.  Please contact PC M Hale of the Barrie Police Traffic Unit at 705-725-7025 ext. 2913 or email at mhale@barriepolice.ca. Any information can be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or leave an anonymous tip online at www.tipsubmit.com
