Occurrence Type: Dog Fatally Shot After Attack on Owner

On Saturday, July 29th, 2017 at 3:13pm Barrie Police Service received a call to the parking lot of Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home located at 30 Worsley Street, in the City of Barrie, for a woman being attacked by a dog.  The dog, who was owned by the female victim, was repetitively and viciously biting both the arms of the victim and not releasing to voice commands or diversions. Police were not able to subdue the dog and as a result multiple shots were fired.  The dog quickly succumbed to its injuries on scene. Due to injuries received from the dog during the attack, the female victim was rushed to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre with serious, non-life threatening injuries.
