July 28th, 2017 - Police & the Community

Barrie Police Service is asking the public's assistance in identifying a male responsible for snatching a purse at a local hotel restaurant.

On Thursday, July 27th, 2017 at 8:30am a female was enjoying her meal in the breakfast area at the Four Points Sheraton located at 60 Bryne Drive, in the City of Barrie.  At some point she realized her purse was no longer hanging on the back of her chair and she alerted hotel staff. Video surveillance was reviewed and it was observed a male entering the hotel moments before the theft and position himself in the breakfast area directly behind the victim.  After multiple attempts to scoop the purse, the male managed to drape his jacket over the victim's chair and remove the purse. He immediately left the hotel through the main entrance and was last seen walking southbound on Bryne Drive towards Hampton Inn & Suites and Leon's Furniture.

Description:

  • Male, olive or brown complexion
  • 35-45 years old
  • Medium-heavy build
  • Wearing a green jacket, jeans and green hat

Police are continuing their investigation at this time and wish for anyone who may have information to please contact PC K Groh of the Barrie Police Service at 705-725-7025 ext. 2533 or email at kgroh@barriepolice.ca. Any information can be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or leave an anonymous tip online at www.tipsubmit.com

The public is being reminded to keep valuables close to their person.  Leaving a purse or bag in a grocery cart, hung on the back of a chair or anywhere where your eyes may be off the item for a moment creates opportunity for a thief to snatch up your valuables or create a distraction to divert your attention.
